The Hanson Center seeks to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in STEM.

As a research and practice center, the Hanson Center promotes inclusive excellence in learning, teaching, faculty and student development, institutional climate and policies, and engagement in the community and beyond. We aspire to maximize all students’ and faculty potential for success in STEM; facilitate the cross-curricular study of STEM fields in ways that address their social and cultural significance and impact on social justice; and transform the institution through integrative and collaborative efforts.

Educate ourselves so we pursue actions with impact:
We strive to understand the campus climate and student and faculty experiences to help provide resources and offer meaningful programs so there is equality of opportunity for all; this involves identifying and eliminating barriers that have prevented the full participation of some groups

Center the experiences of historically marginalized faculty and students:
Cultivate a sense of belonging in and out of STEM classrooms and throughout the college

Help our faculty identify and support the next generation of STEM leaders:
Work with faculty on existing and new initiatives to promote access and inclusion using research-informed efforts

Collaborate and foster a community of practice for teacher-scholars in inclusive STEM Studies:
We develop new knowledge and insights about STEM culture and practices, practitioners, products, and interaction with society
