In 2017, Jenn Stroud Rossman, Mathew Baird Professor of mechanical engineering, and Mary Armstrong, Charles A. Dana Professor of women’s, gender and sexuality studies and English, as part of the inclusive STEM Education & Studies Working Group, presented a report, “The Future of Inclusive STEM Education & Studies at Lafayette College,” outlining how Lafayette is uniquely positioned both to demonstrate excellence in inclusive STEM pedagogies and be a leader in the broader field of STEM studies.
That same year, Heidi Hanson ’91 and her husband, Daniel, committed the lead gift to create the Daniel and Heidi ’91 Hanson Center for Inclusive STEM Education at Lafayette.
From 2020-21, Rossman served as co-director, along with former professor of mathematics, Chawne Kimber, and together they worked to launch the center and initiate new programs and projects to advance the center’s mission
Dr. Wendy Hill, Rappolt Professor Emeritus of Neuroscience, served as a co-director with Rossman from 2021-22 and then became the inaugural full-time director in July 2022, bringing a wealth of experience to her new position.
