The Hanson Center offers robust and evidence-based peer mentoring programs for first-year students pursuing STEM fields.
Peer mentors – students in their junior or senior year – provide academic and psychosocial support and enhance new students’ sense of belonging so they experience greater connection to the STEM fields and the Lafayette community. Together with participating STEM majors, the Hanson Center aims to create a vibrant and evidence-based mentoring experience for first-year students.
If you are a first-year student interested in working with a peer mentor, please select your major from the list below and fill out the interest form. Your answers will be used to connect you with a mentor with common interests and social identities. Research has shown that mentor-mentee relationships are especially effective when the individuals connect in meaningful and personally-relevant ways.
As a peer mentee, you will meet with your mentor once a month starting in October, and there will be two group events for your major in September and May.
